Here's why:
* Planets are not stars: Stars are massive balls of hot gas that produce their own light through nuclear fusion. Planets are much smaller and do not have the mass or internal processes to create their own light.
* Reflection: Planets shine because they reflect light from their host star. Just like the moon reflects sunlight, planets do the same, making them appear bright in the night sky.
However, some planets, like Jupiter and Saturn, have internal heat sources. This heat can make them emit a faint glow, but it's not enough to be visible to the naked eye.
So, while planets appear to have light, it's all borrowed from their stars.
