The Milky Way is a galaxy, a vast collection of billions of stars, gas, dust, and dark matter. It contains many main sequence stars, as well as other types of stars, nebulae, and planets. Our own Sun is a main sequence star within the Milky Way galaxy.
Think of it this way: a single grain of sand on a beach is like a star compared to the entire beach, which is like a galaxy.
