While the Sun is most known for its visible light, it emits a wide spectrum of electromagnetic radiation, including:
* Radio waves: These are the lowest energy waves and are used in communication.
* Microwaves: Used for cooking and communication.
* Infrared radiation: We feel this as heat.
* Visible light: The light we see.
* Ultraviolet radiation: Can cause sunburns and skin cancer.
* X-rays: Used in medical imaging.
* Gamma rays: The highest energy waves, produced by nuclear reactions in the Sun's core.
Gamma rays carry the most energy and are the product of nuclear fusion happening deep within the Sun's core. While they are incredibly powerful, they are also absorbed by the Sun's outer layers and don't reach Earth in significant amounts.
