  • Stratus vs. Cirrus Clouds: Altitude and Formation Explained
Stratus clouds are found closer to the ground.

    Here's why:

    * Stratus clouds are low-level clouds, typically forming below 2,000 meters (6,500 feet). They are often associated with overcast skies and drizzle.

    * Cirrus clouds are high-level clouds, forming above 6,000 meters (20,000 feet). They are wispy and feathery, composed of ice crystals.
