    The shape of the orbit of each planet in our solar system is an ellipse.

    An ellipse is like a slightly squashed circle. It has two focal points, and the sun is located at one of these focal points.

    While the orbits are close to circular, they are not perfectly circular. This means that planets travel at slightly different speeds at different points in their orbits. They move faster when they are closer to the sun and slower when they are farther away.
