  • Uranus: The Sideways Planet - Why Does It Rotate on Its Side?
The only outer planet that rotates on its side is Uranus.

    Here's why:

    * Axis of Rotation: Uranus's axis of rotation is tilted at a whopping 98 degrees compared to its orbital plane. This means it essentially rotates on its side, with its poles facing the Sun for a significant portion of its year.

    * Hypothesized Cause: The most likely explanation for Uranus's unique orientation is a collision with a massive object early in its formation. This impact could have knocked the planet onto its side.

While other outer planets like Neptune and Saturn have tilted axes, Uranus's tilt is extreme and makes it stand out in the solar system.
