  • Moon Composition: What is the Moon Made Of? (Rocks, Silicates & More)
The moon is primarily made of rock, not metals or gases.

While there are traces of metals like iron and nickel in the moon's core, the vast majority of its composition is made up of:

    * Silicates: These are minerals that contain silicon and oxygen, and make up most of the moon's crust and mantle.

    * Oxide: This is a compound of oxygen and another element, like iron oxide (rust).

    * Other elements: In smaller amounts, the moon also contains elements like aluminum, magnesium, calcium, and titanium.

The moon does have a very thin atmosphere, but it's so incredibly thin that it's practically negligible and doesn't significantly contribute to the moon's composition.
