  • Cirrostratus Clouds: Composition, Formation & Altitude
Cirrostratus clouds are made of ice crystals.

    Here's why:

    * High Altitude: Cirrostratus clouds form at very high altitudes, typically above 20,000 feet.

    * Freezing Temperatures: At these altitudes, temperatures are well below freezing, meaning water vapor freezes into ice crystals.

It's important to note that cirrostratus clouds can sometimes contain a small amount of supercooled water droplets, but the majority of their composition is ice.
