  • Mercury: The Planet with the Greatest Temperature Swings
    The planet with the most extreme temperature variations is Mercury.

    Here's why:

    * No atmosphere: Mercury has a very thin atmosphere, which means there is very little to trap heat or regulate temperatures.

    * Close to the sun: Being the closest planet to the sun, Mercury receives intense solar radiation.

    * Slow rotation: Mercury rotates very slowly, resulting in extremely long days and nights. This means that the sun-facing side gets extremely hot, while the opposite side freezes.

    Temperatures on Mercury can range from:

    * Daytime: 430°C (800°F)

    * Nighttime: -180°C (-290°F)

    This difference of over 600°C (1100°F) makes Mercury the planet with the most extreme temperature variations in our solar system.
