Here's why:
* Dark matter: This mysterious substance doesn't interact with light, making it invisible to telescopes. We know it exists because of its gravitational effects on visible matter. Scientists estimate that dark matter makes up about 85% of the total matter in the universe.
* Visible matter (baryonic matter): This includes everything we can see – stars, planets, galaxies, gas, dust, and ourselves. It makes up a much smaller fraction of the universe's total matter, around 15%.
While it's true that the vast majority of the universe is actually dark energy (about 70%), it's not considered matter. Dark energy is a force that drives the accelerated expansion of the universe.
