  • Mercury and Water: Why Does It Sink?
    Mercury is a very dense liquid metal. When placed in water, it will sink to the bottom. Here's why:

    * Density: Mercury is much denser than water (13.5 g/cm³ vs. 1 g/cm³). This means a given volume of mercury weighs significantly more than the same volume of water.

    * Immiscibility: Mercury and water are immiscible, meaning they don't mix. This is because of the different types of chemical bonds present in each substance.
