  • Jupiter: The Solar System's Largest Planet - Size & Mass
The largest object orbiting the Sun is Jupiter.

While the Sun itself is a star, it's not technically "orbiting" anything. The planets in our solar system, including Jupiter, orbit the Sun.

Here's why Jupiter is the largest:

    * Diameter: Jupiter's diameter is about 140,000 kilometers, making it more than 11 times the size of Earth.

    * Mass: Jupiter is over 300 times more massive than Earth.

    * Volume: Jupiter is so large that it could fit all the other planets in our solar system inside of it with room to spare.
