  • Saturn's Rings: History of Discovery & Galileo's Observation
    The first planet discovered to have rings was Saturn.

    While Galileo Galilei observed Saturn's rings in 1610, he thought they were two large moons on either side of the planet. It wasn't until 1655 that Christiaan Huygens, using a more powerful telescope, correctly identified them as a ring system.
