  • Beta Lyrae (Sheliak): The Brightest Star in Lyra - Origin & Details
The second brightest star in the constellation Lyra is Beta Lyrae, also known as Sheliak.

While some stars are named based on their position in the constellation (Alpha being the brightest, Beta the second brightest, etc.), this is not always the case. Sheliak is a binary star system and its name comes from an Arabic term meaning "the lyre."
