  • Friedrich Bessel: Pioneer of Stellar Parallax Measurement
The first person to successfully measure the parallax of a star was Friedrich Bessel. He achieved this feat in 1838, measuring the parallax of the star 61 Cygni.

While others had attempted to measure stellar parallax before, Bessel's measurement was the first to be widely accepted as accurate. It was a groundbreaking achievement that confirmed the heliocentric model of the solar system and helped establish the vast distances to stars.
