NASA named its X-ray telescope the Chandra X-ray Observatory in honor of Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar, an Indian-American astrophysicist.

Chandrasekhar made groundbreaking contributions to our understanding of stellar evolution and white dwarf stars.
