  • Claudius Ptolemy: The Geocentric Model and Its Enduring Influence
The astronomer who proposed the geocentric model that was accepted for over 1400 years was Claudius Ptolemy.

His model, known as the Ptolemaic system, placed the Earth at the center of the universe with the Sun, Moon, and stars revolving around it. While not entirely accurate, Ptolemy's model provided a fairly accurate way to predict the positions of celestial objects, making it the dominant astronomical model for centuries. It was only challenged in the 16th century by the heliocentric model proposed by Nicolaus Copernicus.
