  • Hurricanes: Understanding the Calm Eye of the Storm
The type of storm with a calm center is a hurricane (or typhoon in the western Pacific).

    Here's why:

    * Eye of the Storm: Hurricanes have a central area of calm winds and clear skies known as the "eye". This calm is caused by the spinning air around the center creating an area of low pressure.

    * Powerful Surrounding Winds: The eye is surrounded by powerful thunderstorms and high winds, making the contrast between the eye and the rest of the storm very dramatic.

Other types of storms, like thunderstorms, tornadoes, and blizzards, do not have a calm center.
