  • Hubble's Law: How Distance Affects Galaxy Speed
    A galaxy that is four times farther away will appear to move four times slower.

    This is due to a concept called Hubble's Law. It states that the farther away a galaxy is, the faster it appears to be moving away from us. This is because the universe is expanding, and the farther away something is, the more space it has to expand into.

    Specifically:

    * Hubble's Law: v = H₀d

    * v = velocity of the galaxy

    * H₀ = Hubble Constant (a value that describes the rate of expansion of the universe)

    * d = distance to the galaxy

    So, if you double the distance (d), you double the velocity (v).

    In this case, since the galaxy is four times farther away, it will appear to be moving four times slower.
