While Earth also has a blue atmosphere, it's primarily due to Rayleigh scattering of sunlight by nitrogen and oxygen molecules. Neptune's blue color comes from a different source: methane. Methane absorbs red light and reflects blue light, giving the planet its distinctive azure hue.
