  • Exploring Pluto: Can a Space Shuttle Reach It?
It's impossible to say for certain if a man has passed Pluto in the fastest space shuttle. Here's why:

    * No humans have ever been in a space shuttle beyond Earth's orbit. Space shuttles were designed for low Earth orbit missions. They were not capable of interstellar travel.

    * No space shuttle has ever been to Pluto. The only spacecraft to visit Pluto was the New Horizons probe, launched in 2006.

    * "Fastest space shuttle" is ambiguous. While the Space Shuttle could achieve a high speed, it was never designed to travel at the speeds necessary to reach Pluto.

To summarize: There's no record of any human traveling in a space shuttle to Pluto, and the technology to do so doesn't exist.
