  • The Etymology of 'Sun': Exploring the Origins of a Universal Name
The word "sun" has its roots in the Proto-Germanic word *sunnō, which itself comes from the Proto-Indo-European word *sau̯el-. This word, *sau̯el-, is thought to be related to the Latin word "sol," the Greek word "helios," and the Sanskrit word "sūrya," all of which mean "sun."

Interestingly, the word "sun" is a very old word, with its roots tracing back thousands of years. This tells us that humans have always been fascinated by the sun and have recognized its importance for life on Earth.

It's important to note that the name "sun" isn't a "scientific" name in the way that "Sol" is sometimes used to refer to our star. "Sun" is simply the common, everyday name for the star that provides light and heat to our planet.
