  • Understanding Orbital Speed and the Astronomical Unit
There is no specific astronomical unit for orbital speed. While we use the Astronomical Unit (AU) to measure distances in the solar system, speed is measured in units of distance per time, such as kilometers per second (km/s) or miles per hour (mph).

For example, Earth's orbital speed around the Sun is approximately 30 km/s.

It's important to remember that orbital speed can vary depending on the object's distance from the central body it is orbiting. Objects closer to the central body move faster than those further away.
