  • Identifying When a Hurricane's Eye Has Passed: A Guide
You know the eye of a hurricane is passing over when:

    * Winds suddenly calm down. The most obvious sign is a dramatic decrease in wind speed. It can feel eerily calm and peaceful.

    * The rain stops. The eye is a zone of clear skies and calm weather.

    * The air pressure rises. As the eye passes, barometric pressure will increase rapidly. This is usually measured with a barometer, but you may notice it by feeling less pressure in your ears.

    * The sky clears. You might even be able to see blue sky again.

Important Note: While the eye of a storm offers temporary respite, it's crucial to remember:

    * The calm is only temporary. The other half of the storm will soon follow, with winds coming from the opposite direction.

    * It's not a safe time to go outside. There is still danger of flying debris, tornadoes, and heavy rain.

Stay safe and listen to emergency officials for guidance.
