Neil Alden Armstrong (August 5, 1930 – August 25, 2012) was an American astronaut who became the first person to set foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969, at 20:18:04 UTC (1:18:04 p.m. EDT) as a part of the Apollo 11 mission. As he took his first step onto the surface, he proclaimed, "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind."
