  • Ancient Constellations: Origins and Early Human Observations
    Early humans started observing and recognizing patterns among stars as early as the Neolithic period (around 10,000 - 2,0000 BC). Some of the world's earliest and best recorded constellation come from Ancient Mesopotamia dating back to more than 5,000 years ago. These Mesopotamia astronomer identified celestial phenomenon, named constellation and even assigned mythological significance to them. Constellation served multiple purposes to people, including marking of seasons , for astrological predictions , religious beliefs and aiding in celestial navigation , as early seafarers and traders used them to orient and locate distant places during their journey.
