  • Understanding the New Moon: Visibility and Appearance
During the New Moon phase, the Moon is actually invisible to the naked eye. This is because the side of the Moon facing Earth is not illuminated by the Sun. Instead, the Moon is positioned between the Earth and the Sun, causing its dark side to face Earth. As a result, no sunlight reflects off the Moon, making it appear completely dark or absent in the night sky.
