  • The Source of Clouds: Understanding Cloud Formation
    Water.

All clouds are made up of tiny water droplets or ice crystals. These droplets or ice crystals form when water vapor in the air condenses. Condensation occurs when the water vapor cools and turns into liquid water or ice. The source of all clouds is therefore the water that evaporates from the Earth's surface, from lakes and rivers, from the oceans, and from plants and animals.
