While some weather conditions can limit satellite observations, satellites cannot "see" directly through dense clouds to view Earth's surface, as clouds block most visible light and infrared radiation. Different instruments, including microwave imaging radiometers and synthetic aperture radar, which penetrate cloud cover, are required to study conditions beneath cloud layers.
