    The International Space Station (ISS) orbits Earth at an average altitude of 408 kilometres (253 miles). This altitude fluctuates as the space station travels through different parts of its orbit. At its highest point, the ISS reaches an altitude of about 416 kilometers (258 miles), while at its lowest point, it dips down to about 400 kilometers (248 miles).
