    The term "dwarf star" is usually reserved for main sequence stars of small size and low luminosity. The Sun, on the other hand, is classified as a main sequence star of spectral type G and luminosity class V, making it a yellow dwarf star. Yellow dwarfs are the most common type of stars in our galaxy, and in fact, the vast majority of stars in the universe are dwarf stars.
