  • The Sun's State of Matter: Understanding Solar Plasma
The sun is in a state of matter known as plasma. Plasma is a hot, ionized gas consisting of positively charged ions and negatively charged electrons that are separated from each other. In the case of the sun, the extremely high temperatures and pressures in its core cause the atoms to break down into their individual nuclei and electrons, forming a plasma state.
