  • Lunar Craters: Formation, Types, and Size
Bowl-shaped lunar depressions are known as craters. Craters are formed when an object, such as a meteoroid, comet, or asteroid, impacts the surface of the Moon. The impact creates a shockwave that causes the material around the impact site to be ejected, forming a crater. Craters can range in size from a few meters to hundreds of kilometers across.
