The idea that the Earth is at the center of the universe with everything else orbiting around it is known as the geocentric model. This model was proposed by ancient Greek philosophers such as Aristotle and Ptolemy in the 3rd century BC. It remained the dominant model of the universe until the 16th century when Copernicus proposed the heliocentric model which has the Sun at the center of the Solar System.
