Belt points to the constellation Taurus, in the area near the star Aldebaran, which lies approximately 65 light years away. Belt also roughly points toward Sirius, the Dog Star, the brightest star in the night sky. Sirius lies in the constellation Canis Major, approximately 8.6 light years away. To locate Sirius in the night sky, follow the three stars of Orion's Belt in a straight line. Sirius will be the brightest star you see in that direction.
