  • Photosphere: Understanding the Sun's Visible Surface
The layer of the sun's atmosphere that is also called the surface is called the photosphere. The photosphere is the innermost and the densest layer of the sun's atmosphere. It is visible from Earth and appears as a bright, glowing disk. The photosphere is where most of the sun's light and heat is emitted, and it is where sunspots and other features on the sun's surface can be observed.
