  • Apollo & Artemis: Exploring the Greek Twins' Myth & Legends
The Myth of Artemis and Apollo

Artemis and Apollo were Greek gods, part of the twelve Olympian gods. Apollo was the god of healing, music, and prophecy, while Artemis was the goddess of the hunt, animals, and fertility. They were twins, born to Zeus and Leto.

Leto was pursued by the dragon Python sent by Hera, Zeus's wife, who was jealous of Leto. Leto eventually found refuge on the island of Delos, where she gave birth to Apollo and Artemis. Apollo immediately killed Python, and the island became sacred to him.

Apollo and Artemis were both skilled archers and would often hunt together. They had many adventures together, including the slaying of the giant Tityus and the capturing of the Cerberus, the three-headed guard dog of Hades.

Artemis was a particularly fierce goddess and would not tolerate any disrespect. One day, Actaeon, a mortal hunter, saw Artemis bathing in a pool. Artemis was enraged and turned Actaeon into a deer, who was then killed by his own dogs.

Apollo and Artemis were also closely associated with the Oracle at Delphi. The oracle was a priestess who would go into a trance and speak prophecies on behalf of Apollo. Apollo was seen as the god who inspired the prophecies, while Artemis was seen as the guardian of the oracle.
