  • Meteorites: What Happens When a Falling Star Hits Earth?
If a meteoroid survives its flight through the atmosphere and actually reaches the ground, it is then called a meteorite. Some of these meteorites are extremely rare, and they can provide valuable information about the history of our solar system.

Some meteorites are tiny, while others can be as large as cars or even houses. The largest known meteorite in the world is the Hoba meteorite, which is located in Namibia. It weighs about 66 tons, and it is estimated to be about 80,000 years old.

When a meteorite hits the ground, it can create a crater. The size of the crater depends on the size of the meteorite and its speed. Some meteorites can create craters that are several kilometers in diameter.

Meteorites can also cause other damage, such as fires, building collapses, and injuries to people. However, these cases are relatively rare.
