  • Semimajor Axis: Understanding Orbital Distance Around the Sun
The semimajor axis is half of the major axis of an elliptical orbit. It is a measure of the average distance between the orbiting object and the body it is orbiting. For an object orbiting the Sun, the semimajor axis is the average distance between the object and the Sun. It is measured in astronomical units (AU), where 1 AU is the average distance from Earth to the Sun.
