  • Daily Space Events: Top 3 Cosmic Happenings
    Assistant

Here are the top three space events of the day, as of my last knowledge update in August 2021:

    1. Perseverance Rover Begins Collecting Samples on Mars

NASA's Perseverance rover reached a major milestone in its mission on Mars as it successfully collected its first rock samples. The samples were collected from a region known as Jezero Crater, which is believed to have once held a lake. The samples will now be stored on the rover until they can be brought back to Earth for analysis.

    2. JWST Reaches Its Final Destination

The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), the most ambitious and expensive space telescope ever built, successfully reached its final destination, an orbit around the second Lagrange point (L2). The JWST is now undergoing a several-month process of alignment and testing before it begins scientific operations in 2022.

    3. SpaceX Crew-2 Astronauts Return to Earth

Four astronauts from the SpaceX Crew-2 mission returned to Earth safely after a six-month stay on the International Space Station (ISS). The astronauts, who were part of the first fully-crewed mission launched by SpaceX, parachuted into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Florida.
