  • Lunar Craters: Why They Remain Unchanged Over Billions of Years
The craters on the Moon hardly change because there are no significant weathering or erosion processes like on Earth. The Moon lacks an atmosphere, which prevents wind erosion, and it has minimal tectonic activity. The Moon is also subject to a very dry and cold environment, which inhibits chemical weathering. As a result, the craters formed by impact events on the Moon can remain largely unchanged for billions of years.
