1) Contains all of Earth's weather: As the lowest layer of the atmosphere, the troposphere is where all of Earth's weather occurs. The thickness of the troposphere varies from about 9 km at the poles to about 18 km at the equator, and it contains about 75% of the total mass of the atmosphere.

2) Jet Stream: The jet stream is a fast-flowing, narrow air current found in the upper levels of the troposphere. It is caused by the difference in temperature between the tropics and the polar regions, and it plays a major role in determining the weather patterns around the globe.
