The luminous intensity of a light source is measured in candelas (cd). It is a measure of the amount of light emitted by a source in a given direction per unit solid angle. It is analogous to the intensity of sound, which is measured in decibels (dB). The higher the luminous intensity, the brighter the light source erscheint.
