Comet ISON did disintegrate in late November 2013 during its close approach to the Sun. Observations made by various telescopes revealed that the comet broke into several fragments before eventually fading from view. The main fragment, known as ISON-A, is believed to have completely disintegrated, while other smaller fragments may have survived and continued on their trajectories around the Sun.
