Edouard was located about 1,100 miles west of the Cabo Verde Islands, and it was moving west at 15 mph. The storm is expected to remain over the open ocean and not pose any threat to land areas.
The satellite images showed that Edouard had a well-defined circulation center with deep convection near its core. The storm also had a spiral banding pattern of clouds and thunderstorms.
Edouard is the fifth named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season. The season has been relatively inactive so far, with only four other named storms forming before Edouard. However, the peak of the hurricane season typically occurs in September, so it is still possible that more storms could form in the coming weeks.
