  • Rocket Lab's Humanity Star: A Brilliant Sphere in Orbit

    On the night of January 20, 2023, Rocket Lab made news and mesmerized stargazers around the world after its Electron rocket deployed three satellites and released a disco ball-like glittering ball of 1 billion corner cube reflectors called the 'Humanity Star.' For about two months this sphere will be visible with the naked eye in the predawn, then dusk sky before it fades into Earth's orbit for at least five year. As this disco ball makes its orbit, viewers on Earth may enjoy its glittering effect that was designed just for us to admire from below. With it's reflecting panels glittering back sunlight towards planet, it was aptly name the Humanity Star in hopes of inspiring humans across the world on nights they look up at the sky.
