    Asteroids contain water, organic molecules, and amino acids necessary for life and thus are considered one possible means by which organic material was introduced to the early Earth by asteroid impacts. The study of such primitive extraterrestrial material is also important because carbonaceous chondrite meteorites are relatively pristine samples of what the early solar system was like at the time asteroids formed roughly 4.4-4.6 billion years ago
