Olympus Mons is the tallest mountain in the Solar System, located on the planet Mars. It is believed to be an extinct shield volcano, however there is no evidence to suggest that it was ever an island. It is composed primarily of volcanic material and is thought to have been formed over hundreds of millions of years through successive volcanic eruptions.
