Predicting high waves during storms accurately is crucial for disaster prevention and planning. A new forecast model called WaveWatch III (WW3) combines data from satellites, buoys, and wave models to predict wave heights, wind speed, and wave direction, among other things. By incorporating machine learning techniques, the model learns from historical data, enabling it to fine-tune its predictions and reduce errors. With the help of a supercomputer, the model quickly processes vast amounts of real-time information, improving the reliability and timeliness of storm wave forecasts.
