  • James Webb Telescope Temperature: Reaching Optimal Performance
The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has not yet reached its final operating temperature. The telescope was launched on December 25, 2021, and is currently undergoing a commissioning process to verify its performance and calibrate its instruments. During the commissioning process, the telescope will gradually cool down to its final operating temperature of around -233 degrees Celsius (-387 degrees Fahrenheit). This temperature is necessary to reduce the telescope's infrared background noise and allow it to detect faint objects in the distant universe.

Once JWST reaches its final operating temperature and completes the commissioning process, it will begin conducting scientific observations. The telescope is expected to make significant contributions to our understanding of the universe, including the formation of galaxies, the evolution of stars, and the search for exoplanets.
